Fish Oils: Recently Discovered Benefits

Researchers have found correlation in improved hand-eye coordination of babies of mothers who take fish oil during pregnancy. In a recent study, the babies of mothers who took fish oil supplements scored significantly higher on coordination tests than children whose mothers took other supplements. Those other supplements did not contain Omega three Fatty Acids. According to the research, high levels of Omega three acids found in the cord blood were associated with improved coordination while cords with high levels of Omega six fatty acids, found in meats and vegetables, showed no significant improvement.

I find this research very interesting. There are so many "little things" pregnant mothers can do to help their children develop. My wife supplemented with pharmaceutical grade fish oils, cod liver oil in particular, and participated in other healthy activities during the pregnancies of our two children. Basically, she ate right, stayed in good shape, and used the correct natural supplements. We've noticed my two year old seems to be very advanced in his motor skills and his emotional intelligence. Our baby girl is just seven months old, but we soon will be able to evaluate her skill development. I'm confident we will see simlar results as we did with our son.
