The future of cardiovascular disease prevention and treatment will not be found in your medicine cabinet, rather in your kitchen cupboard or in your back yard growing on a tree.

A new study published in the journal Atherosclerosis confirms that pomegranate extract may prevent and/or reverse the primary pathology associated with cardiac mortality: the progressive thickening of the coronary arteries caused by the accumulation of fatty materials known as atherosclerosis.

Pomegranate Found To Prevent Coronary Artery Disease Progression

Mice with a genetic susceptibility towards spontaneous coronary artery blockages were given pomegranate extract via their drinking water for two weeks, beginning at three weeks of age. Despite the fact that pomegranate treatment actually increased cholesterol levels associated with very low density lipoprotein-sized particles, the treatment both reduced the size of the atherosclerotic plaques in the aortic sinus (the dilated opening above the aortic valve) and reduced the proportion of coronary arteries with occlusive atherosclerotic plaques.

Remarkably, the researchers also found that pomegranate extract treatment resulted in the following beneficial effects:

– Reduced levels of oxidative stress

– Reduced monocytie chemotactic protein-1, a chemical messenger (chemokine) associated with inflammatory processes within the arteries.

– Reduced lipid accumulation in the heart muscle

– Reduced macrophage infiltration in the heart muscle

– Reduced levels of monocyte chemotactic protein-1 and fibrosis in the myocardium

– Reduced cardiac enlargement

– Reduced ECG abnormalities

How can something as benign and commonplace as a fruit extract reverse so many aspects of coronary artery disease, simultaneously, as evidenced by the study above? The answer may lie in the fact that our ancestors co-evolved with certain foods (fruits in particular) for so long that a lack of adequate quantities of these foods may directly result in deteriorating organ function. Indeed, two-time Nobel Prize winner Linus Pauling argued that vitamin C deficiency is a fundamental cause of cardiovascular disease, owing to the fact that our hominid primate ancestors once had year-round access to fruits, and as a result lost the ability to synthesize it. See Linus Pauling vitamin C lecture on GreenMedTV

  1. I make a morning juice drink with 1- pomegranate, 1-lemon and 1-small pc. of ginger in a blender with some filtered water, strained into glass jug and add more water to fill, shake well and put in fridge. Every morning drink down one warmed up glass full on empty stomach- do not eat or drink anything else for at least 45 min. That,s last part is important. It,s my morning ritual. Sometimes I grate up and steep the ginger on the stove in 2 cups of water first and then strain and add to my glass jug with the rest.

  2. Pomegranate is a popular fruit. Pomegranate juice contains high levels of antioxidants — greater than most other fruit juices, green tea and red wine, according to HealthCastle.com. These antioxidants include phytonutrients such as polyphenol, tannins and anthocyanins. Daily consumption of pomegranate juice is more potent in improving antioxidant function than other fruit because of its concentrated amount of phenolic compounds, according to research by C. Guo published in “Nutrition Research” in 2008.

    Risk: Drug Interactions

Pomegranate juice is healthy to drink daily. However, it may interfere with some prescription drugs, such as medications that treat high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Research by A.V. Sorokin, published in the “American Journal of Cardiology” in 2006, revealed that consuming pomegranate juice may increase the risk of rhabdomyolysis — a condition involving muscle breakdown that can cause kidney failure — if you are taking rosuvastatin, a drug that treats high cholesterol. Before drinking pomegranate juice on a daily basis, talk with your doctor.

  3. We at Earth Patriot use a Natural & 100% Organic fruit to Lower our Cholesterol…
And it also lowers your Blood Sugar Levels and Lowers your Blood Pressure…. How great is that?

  4. Or you can just use Magnesium Bicarbonate. That “hardening” is yeast(tartaric acid) trying to melt the heart-disease parasite (ascariasis lumbricoide aka “roundworm” aka “heart worm”) then Calcium binding the toxins. This is “calcification” and Magnesium is the carrot to that mule. It pulls calcium to where it needs to go then flushes out what’s unnecessary. The bicarbonate lightens Magnesium’s weight(magnesium is a metal) and makes it easier for us to absorb. There’s your holistic microbiology class for today.

ps….Magensium Bicarbonate also cures arthritis, and many brain diseases caused by calcification like Parkinsons and Autism.
pss…Most fresh, ORGANIC fruits contain Magensium bicarbonate and the acids that kill the parasites so yeast and calcium have noting to do.

  6. Pomegranate juice supplies anti-oxidents that limit oxidation stress. Oxidation is the biggest scavenger of Nitric Oxide produced by the endothelial layer of the artery. It is the Nitric Oxide that is providing the benefits of clean arteries and lower blood pressure. The anti-oxidents from Pomegranate juice allow more of it to get through. The problem is that by the time we are 60 we are onlly producing 15% of the Nitric Oxide we made when we were 20. To get the benefits of Nitric Oxide you have to supplement with L-Arginine.

  7. im all for natural rememdies & all that, but…

if “natural cures” are so much more beneficial…..why is it that back in those days ie: before Monsanto and GMO’s and all that,
‘mankind’ had a much shorter life span ?

    just a thought.

  8. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said, “Pomegranate and its rind strengthen digestion (stomach).” (narrated Ali(radhiyallahu anhu), Abu Nuaim, Al-Jozi)

Some of the benefits of the fruit include that it has antioxidant, antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. In alternative medicine, it has been used to treat diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Extract of pomegranate has been shown to fight against staph, salmonella and some kinds of strep bacteria. In the dental field, it has been found to inhibit the formation of the bacteria that causes plaque, aid in healing after periodontal procedures and reduce signs of chronic periodontitis. In a 2004 study by the Iran National Nutrition and Food Technology Research Institute, type II diabetes patients significantly reduced their cholesterol levels by consuming pomegranate juice concentrate daily.

The fruit is also used in many cures in traditional Islamic medicine.
