How to heal cavities naturally

heal cavities

by Derek Henry | Natural News

The world is slowly waking up to the fact that, when you give the body what it needs, it can heal things we previously thought were impossible. A fine example of what is often deemed as an incurable health problem is dental cavities, but extensive research is now becoming more public about the true nature of tooth decay and the fact that there are proven remedies that can remedy it.

The lies perpetrated about tooth decay

According to the American Dental Association, the reason we have tooth decay is as follows:

“[Tooth decay] occurs when foods containing carbohydrates (sugars and starches) such as milk, pop, raisins, cakes or candy are frequently left on the teeth. Bacteria that live in the mouth thrive on these foods, producing acids as a result. Over a period of time, these acids destroy tooth enamel, resulting in tooth decay.”

There are a few problems with this theory, including:

• Groups of indigenous people who had fermentable carbohydrates stuck on their teeth all the time that did not brush or floss were mostly or completely free of tooth decay.
• Bacteria do not consume processed sugar or flour because of the lack of nutrients in them.
• Foods that bacteria like to eat, such as milk, vegetables, meat, fish and fruit, are not commonly implicated in causes of tooth decay.

So if the modern explanation of tooth decay is not accurate, what is actually the cause of tooth decay?

What actually causes tooth decay

Tooth decay, as researched by Dr. Weston Price and other dental pioneers, boiled down to three factors:

• Not enough minerals in the diet.
• Not enough fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K) in the diet.
• Nutrients not being readily bioavailable, and your intestinal system not properly absorbing them. The presence of phytic acid largely influences this factor.

Over a period of time, if your diet lacks vitamins and minerals from a poor diet and/or contains high levels of phytates (from grains, seeds, nuts, and legumes), the blood chemistry and the ratio of calcium and phosphorous become out of balance, which results in minerals being pulled from bones, causing tooth and bone loss.

So, the long-standing belief that sugar causes tooth decay is true, but as a result of it depleting nutrients from the body, not because bacteria eat it and produce acid that ruins your teeth.

The food remedies that can heal cavities and tooth decay

In order to restore the ratio of calcium and phosphorus in our blood, and to enable minerals to bond to our teeth, it is not enough to just avoid eating too many sweet or processed foods. We must also eat health-building foods, containing copious amounts of minerals and vitamins that will build a glassy hard tooth structure.

Foods to focus on are:
• Coconut oil, grass-fed organic dairy (especially butter), grass-fed meats, seafood and bone broths.
• Organic cooked vegetables (soups with bone broth are ideal).
• Organ and gland meats, like liver.

Limit foods that are high in phytic acid, like grains, beans, nuts and seeds, as well as limiting processed food intake full of processed flours and sugars that upset blood sugar balance.

Supplements to consider are:
• Fermented cod liver oil – very high in fat soluble vitamins A, D and K.
• Magnesium – required to use calcium and phosphorous effectively.
• Gelatin – if you don’t have time to make bone broth, this is a good alternative and is great for gums and digestion.

  1. Woah, when a post like this comes up, I tend to not believe the legitamacy of this site. Lots of misinformation here, which is truly misleading! Once a tooth has significant decay there is no way to cure it! Tooth decay is usually a direct result from what you put into your mouth in terms of food and drink. Equally important is the amount of care you give your teeth on a daily basis with brushing and flossing. You have also posted on this site today an article about: the body and it’s ph balance, alkaline vs. acidic. You also state an acidic body is one that is prone to inflammation and disease. BINGO now we’re talking about how tooth decay forms. Basically, sugary foods or drinks come in contact with your teeth. Plaque is a bacteria that is always forming in your mouth. If you mix sugar+plaque= drop in your ph, now your teeth are exposed to acid which is a byproduct of this mix. There are a few factors that come into play such as, how often are you eating the “sugars” that feed the plaque? How strong are your teeth in terms of fluoride exposure? How often are you thoroughly brushing and flossing? Every time your mouth’s ph drops it can take 20 min or so to return to normal. So it you are eating junk often, not brushing often, or drinking an acidic drink often (read your labels, even diet drinks are acidic) you can tend to have more tooth decay. If you drink soda all day long you are literally bathing your teeth in acid. Your teeth are amazingly the hardest tissue in your body. Exposure to acidity is the recipe that breaks down enamel. If you have a very tiny cavity that is forming, proper fluoride treatment may stop the progression of the decay if it’s caught early enough. Children and teens are often prone to decay because of their lack of skills in caring for their mouth properly, and their diets may be poor. If you suspect tooth decay get to the dentist. Please be aware that your dentist and hygienist holistically do have your best interests at heart, but you have a responsibility to take care of yourself also.

    • I think the articles title is misleading. Really, Weston Price talked about the underlying cause of tooth decay – being deficient in vitamins and minerals etc. But this articles title is misleading and really makes me want to just skip past it. Too bad, because there’s some good info in it. But you surely aren’t going to make your decay disappear with some coconut oil…

  2. Agree with you about the importance of diet and truly good and sound nutrition. Take exception to one point though pertaining to the tooth decay “myth”… You gave an example of indigenous people eating local starchy carbs and not developing tooth decay… Anthropological studies tell us that people have used DIY toothpicks/ sticks chosen or fashioned to pick food from in-between teeth from early times, which is a form of oral hygiene; rinsing their mouths with sea water or other naturally occurring water sources generally with high alkalinity. Indigenous Maori of New Zealand are a fine example of a high functioning social population who traditionally, prior to being colonised, were practitioners of natural medicine; a people who had an holistic approach to health, including oral care… Thank you for a great article, though. On balance, it has tremendous merit.

  3. Technically, fluoride is natural. It’s on the periodic table as a natural element in our environment. Consuming it is not a good idea though, such as in water fluoridation, but using it on the teeth and then spitting it out is how it should be used. Also, there are special pastes used to help get rid of early signs of tooth decay and cavities, such as MI paste, which contains fluoride and also contains “RECALDENT™ (CPP-ACP); Casein Phosphopeptide (CPP) are natural occurring molecules which are able to release calcium and phosphate ions and stabilize Amorphous Calcium Phosphate (ACP) RECALDENT™ (CPP-ACP) is milk derived with lactose content less than 0.01%*”
That was taken from their website. Basically saying, the only way to properly care for your teeth is with natural remedies, which is what we currently already do today.

  4. Had such severe headaches and memory loss as soon as I got fillings at 14. Wish I’d never had them! Never had any kind of a toothache before my silver /mercury amalgam…had them covered 10 years ago, one cap came off, headaches, memory loss are back.

  5. Dawn Cote…I have to respectfully disagree. Nothing.in this universe is designed to last forever. Everything has a begining and an end. Genetic diseases alone are reasons to know for sure we cannot self heal everything. Look at type 1 diabetes…the body no longer has the ability to produce inculine…to go without it is just signing yoir own.death warrant.

  6. I’m all about natural remedies and understand the value but this post is complete BS. Sorry guys but whoever wrote this is being grossly negligent. You can certainly avoid tooth decay by doing many healthy things mentioned but once there is decay present you can not get rid of it unless it is removed professionally.

    • you are soooooooo wrong JoyLyn and have been programmed to believe utter Bull shit! DO some serious RESEARCH! we were designed to live forever, we have Natural cures for every part of the human body.. even when the process has started with our now imperfections after Adam & Eve.. Cancer can be cured, MS can be cured.. All can be cured!!!

  7. If we can a 2nd set of teeth, why not grown additional sets of teeth or individual teeth. That’s a kind of teeth. Total regeneration. What the mind can conceive…Anyway, I manifested all my Xmas presents as a kid through mere wishful thinking and the power of suggestion.

  8. Seriously…do NOT think you can self heal tooth decay. Oral health can affect your heart stomach kidneys…on and on. Please people…i know you want to believe you can heal everything naturally but you CANT. If left unattended it can lead to abcess which can go to the brain. Im starting to think this website is dangerous.

    • Erin, while the teeth can cause serious danger if left untreated, make no bones about the fact that we were made to live forever..Sin or no sin! There are NATURAL HEALING REMEDIES for EVERY part of our BODIES!!! best believe that you have been programmed for many years, as have many to believe that drugs and surgery are the only answers.. WAKE UP chickee poo!

  9. That’s if you have any Teeth left after dentistry visiting they like to pull off teeth & scrapings Rapping cottons with full of blood leaving you bleeding never replaced any of my teething or Heeling then tell you don’t come back your off the list . They like yang under 18 to damage there teeth & Drug them to control Rule them with how goodies new slavery slate as they have no records on new systems the criminals can use if they step out of line in future places

  10. And another thing…tooth decay occurs in specific locations on the tooth, like in the pits and grooves on the biting surfaces, in between the teeth and at the gum line…the places where people voluntarily do not clean, or they don’t clean effectively, or they physically can’t clean(like in the deepest parts of the grooves). That’s where you get cavities…where plaque and bacteria congregate and where there is the most acidic environment day after day, week after week until you get a cavity. If you keep these areas cleaner for longer than they are covered in plaque…the mineral balance will be tipped in your favor and for the most part you shouldn’t get cavities. Sealants will help keep plaque and acid out of those deep grooves too. Teeth are not like soft tissue, they aren’t really affected by vitamins and minerals and nutrients besides calcium, fluoride and carbs. Dental bacteria cannot break down fats and protiens.

  11. A terrible misinterpretation of the nutritional advise of DR. PRESTON. who lived over 100 years ago, in a time of recession and 2 World Wars. he never said you can cure decay, he just mentioned that the diet of isolated primitive people contains more vitamins and minerals and that he found less decay in their population. He never said they were not brushing their teeth. decay cannot be healed by your diet, but it can be prevented with a good diet and HYGIENE!!! go to the dentist and get those cavities fixed, then change your diet and for Christ sake, start BRUSHING and FLOSSING! this article is just junk!

  12. That’s so true, our bodies are perfectly made by our creator but it’s us that poison our bodies to prevent it to heal and repair naturally . Our bodies are made up of 100 trillions of cells to make up our immune systems, getting those cells healthy by changing our life style and the improper diet that we eat cause our bodies to malfunction.

  13. If you wanna hear something really funny…I worked for a dentist and when I told him that I had learned that we can heal cavities just like broken bones, he’d laughed at me and then fired me…bet he’s singing a different tune now!

  14. Sites like this make sensationalist claims so you’ll click on them and then they get paid from advertisers. The harm that misinformation from this shady site will cause is sad. Look how much advertising is on the site.

  15. Hmmm…. It’s kinda funny. I had poor eating habits as a kid, and poor dental hygiene. I poorly brushed my teeth, and I never flossed for 7 years. The funny thing is when I went pescetarian and ate a lot of bone broth and organic vegetables, my sensitivity went away. When I went to the dentist, no cavities. I shit you not, I didn’t see the dentist for 7 years because of my fear for them, and I didn’t have any cavities. Your body really can heal any part of your body with the right resources. Of course doctors don’t want us to heal ourselves naturally. They can’t make money that way. You are purposely being poisoned, so the vicious cycle can continue. Why else would we have to search so hard to find foods that are actually good and safe for us? Not full of pesticides and dyes, chemicals, hormones. They don’t care. Open your minds, eyes, and research.

  16. Total crap and untrue! I cannot even believe Underground Health allowed this on their site. Of course next to their coca cola ad.
Not a site I would ever like.
All those poor readers, families and children that will
Suffer ultimately in disease and expense from believing this. Prevention and healthy diet people. I’m 42 and still no cavity folks. My Dads a Dentist and has always said brush floss see your Dentist regularly and don’t eat all that sugar!

  17. There are many lies, it is sad how we are killing ourselves with certain technologies. We are intentionally preventing ourselves from healing, and we think it is right, that it is better. Most of us don’t even know the real truth.

  18. Sorry to break it to everyone – This “natural” remedy is not going to work, at all, not one bit. If you or your children have cavities, please see a dentist. Tooth pain and dental infection is a serious condition that can develop into a medical emergency when left untreated, or in this case, IMPROPERLY treated.

  19. Here is a thought, get 1000 people with holes in their teeth to try oil pulling, no fluoride no fillings etc, for a period of time, and compare them to 1000 folks who brush, floss and avoid excessive simple carbohydrates… Then let’s count their teeth. Write a paper, have it peer reviewed and collect Nobel Prize.
Simple. OR we could just believe anyone who pulls their fears out of their ass.

  21. If you are looking for toothpaste with no fluoride, check out the closest “pakistani” og “indian” shop, they often carry toothpaste with no flour and costs less than the fancy once 😉

  22. You are only as wise as your education, always let it be self-directed and not directed by those outside of yourself. Otherwise you are only regurgitating someone else’s knowledge, which can be tainted by agenda…personal, professional, (both egoic) or truth.

  23. Would love to see some real research data on this. 17 years in dental field, 12 years being dentist I have yet to see cavities healed themselves with good nutrition. Good nutrition helps prevent them. If you like to have ur teeth on your hand not in ur mouth then let them healed naturally.

  24. The only way to “heal” a cavity is to treat with prescription fluoride or xylitol if it has not broken completely through the enamel. Once decay reaches the dentin, it is irreversible and must be filled.

  25. This is stupid! I love the lack of research too!! The ADA talks about carbs etc bc of research not guessing!!! Get a clue folks – some of you believe anything that’s posted!!! Btw did you know that if you eat a banana covered in coconut oil – you can cure cancer? Seriously!! I mean I have done no research but it just makes sense!

  26. I agree with Patricia. Filled teeth and the inside of someone’s mouth is a disgusting thing to see. You may as well being showing gratuitously erotic images or disturbingly gory ones at this point…..
Anyway, on a serious note, I don’t think you can heal your cavities by yourself and it’s a little silly to believe that you could

  27. Yeah, Chicken soup can cure cancer and baked potatoes can heal AIDS…. THIS IS THE STUPIDEST THING I HAVE EVER HEARD!!!!!!! You only have 32 adult teeth (28 if you do not have your wisdom teeth). If you want to take your chances with them, GO AHEAD!!!

  28. I’d like to add that I’ve been using Tom’s of Maine FLUORIDE FREE toothpaste. Since I’ve been using this without fluoride the last couple of years, I have had no cavities and my teeth are whiter. Fluoride strips the teeth of it’s natural enamel regardless of what you have been told. However, read the toothpaste label “Do not swallow” Why is that? Well, fluoride is a poison. And they are adding this to our water supply and to some drinking water but yet they tell us to spit it out!! It’s kept in bio hazardous drums. I’ve been getting the mercury fillings removed from my mouth as well. Mercury leaks out into the bloodstream and causes a whole host of health problems.

  29. Every time I go to the dentist, my whole life, I’ve had at least 6 cavities, often more. This year, for the first time EVER I had none. I’ve been taking magnesium for other issues… it’s the only real change. Anecdotal, sure, but who’s going to pay for the expensive research when there’s no profit in it?

  30. The negative effects of dairy/meat consumption are far worse than any tooth problem you may have, which truthfully you most likely only got because you didn’t brush/floss/rinse enough.

  31. I’d love to think this article were good if not for the basic fallacy in it’s title: you cannot “heal” cavities. You may be able to prevent them with dietary adjustments but you will never reverse them. If the title is a fallacy, most likely the “facts” contained within are too. I’m not saying some of these things aren’t true, but again there are a number of factors at play. It includes diet but also genetics, the person them self and their body’s needs and accessibility.

  32. Who cares if youre a dental hygienist. Fluoride is poison. Its a by-product of aluminum. And for those who think this is bs or non-vaccination is bs, YOU need to do your research and quit listening to big brother. Sheeple.

  33. Thank you for sharing this. I have always had cavities Andy son does too, even though we don’t eat candy or drink soda. Looking at an $1300 dental bill for him was devastating. He is only 9 years old.

  34. I come from Otago it has state of the art Dental Care. i know for a fact that the calcium with vitamin D reversed my babies holes in teeth!
i’ve had a root canal what a load of crap that was. it fell out in two days flat.
Otago did not train the dentists that try to pretend that calcium deficiency doesn’t happen to the pregnant.
It told Me yes it does happen. so i can’t trust all Dentists. some lie.

  35. Simply NOT true. Do people not realize that all these websites are trying to sell you something. I am a huge advocate for natural and healthy living, it was how I was raised. I am also a dentist who has studied both sides of the debate. There are many factors that lead to tooth decay, but if you don’t believe that sugar does via bacteria, ie strep mutans, you are NUTS. I have an easy experiment for you and see what happens. Sip on Mountain Dew, Kool-aid, or any other sugary drink daily and do ANY natural preventative you like, then see what happens. STUPID!

  36. The knowledge of life has another name and it’s SIENCE and unless you have some double blind test from multiple international entities then it’s just a meme for the conspiracy theory crowd which was meant as a joke but the logic deficient took to to true.

Some people think that news articles on the onion are facts and one can only laugh at the level of Dumbassery on the planet.

  37. Hi, I agree with a lot of this, apart from the advice about taking meat. I’m a healthy vegan and I don’t need meat to have healthy gums and good teeth. There are many ways to gain vitamins and minerals without the use of meat in our diet. Coconut oil and for example (oil pulling every day is so good for the gums, throat and mouth hygiene and health, removing toxins collected from the body during sleep) it also whitens teeth naturally too. You would be amazed to discover what is out there that is good for us, serves us and the planet for better well-being and health without the use of animal products by good research.

  38. This I know, I have been scraped off the pavement DOA at least twice in my life. And I still live today. Even what they thought to be dead brain tissue, can reactivate and retrain. The human body is the greatest engineered miracle. Since the creation of the universe. And we are destined to live, learn, and discover. All the knowledge God has laid out for us to uncover. We must put all are petty differences aside. So we can ban together and reach out to discover true knowledge. The knowledge of life with no end.

  39. Oil pulling??? Plueeeze! Citric acid and sugar are the culprits. Fluoride is essential in the proper amounts. Citric acid physically debonds the calcium from the tooth. Live bacteria eat the sugar in our mouths then produce acid which breaks down the enamel. Neutralize acid with xylitol. The bacteria eat it but can’t digest it so they die. ( like person trying to live of cardboard- no nutritional value) Teeth in a basic ( not acidic) environment can soak up minerals ie FLUORiDE and remineralize. I think parents who deprive their kids of healthy levels of fluoride are neglectful. I’ve seen kids like this who have a mount full of decay because their parents were to ignorant of facts.

    • how does the byproduct of aluminum and steel manufacturing, (Sodium Fluoride) help teeth? You must have it confused with Calcium Fluoride! Which, by the way is not the fluoride we use. It’s a corrosive acid and it does nothing for teeth. The first time it was used was in Nazi Germany. Research it yourself and quit believing the mainstream: No one believes fluoride is good for your teeth anymore, and many cities are democratically moving to have it removed from their public water.

    • FreeDom Sun…..Sodium Fluoride is not an acid it is a SALT. I suggest you study chemistry before you make ignorant comments. To be an acid, a molecule must have hydrogen atoms that freely disassociate such as HCL (hydrochloric acid) and HF (hydrofluoric acid). Sodium Flouride is a SALT…like sodium chloride (common table salt). Sodium fluoride dissolves in solution leaving free fluoride ions to associate with calcium-hydroxyapatite (the name of the crystal molecule that composes 96% of enamel’s structure). Fluor-hydroxyapatite has a much stronger bond than calcium-hydroxyapatite, meaning that is takes a lower pH (more acid) to dissolve it away…meaning you get less cavities. Science has proved this for decades…don’t listen to “GRANOLA” people pushing their organic, vegan, grass fed diets. Carbs are metabolized by the SPECIFIC bacteria called streptococcus mutans to produce acids which lower the pH of your mouth and break the chemical bonds between Calcium and hydroxyapatite to leave the tooth “chalky” and brittle. Enamel CAN be remineralized if the enamel layer has not been penetrated, and if the patient is able to maintain an acid free environment in the mouth. Calcium is present in saliva and it is what remineralizes the teeth. Fluoride can help the teeth remineralize quicker. It take months and years for true cavities to form but thats what happens. Don’t believe the hack garbage you read on the internet, trust the people that have studied years to dedicate themselves to the science of dentistry. It’s not perfect but it is the best we have.

  40. Highly recommend toothpaste without fluoride … such as Tom’s of Maine … can get at Wal-Mart or health food store. Also suggest filter for all drinking water and shower/bath … as the skins really absorbs the toxic fluoride.

  41. fluoride is a “toxin” and I got so sick when I had old mercury fillings drilled out and within 1-mo. got an “implant” thought I was dying. Sick for 30-days (could only eat soup soooo nauseous) not until implant was removed did I begin to feel better, but only after total dental revision (removing all “toxic metals) did my health return to what it had been before: Radiant Health. Beware of Dentists, people! The materials being used today for so called “fillings” are so toxic the EPA won’t even let it in the ground … do your homework, the health of you or someone you love <3 may be at stake. Been there done that got the t-shirt.

  42. I oil pull with coconut oil and use a homemade tooth powder 🙂 works amazing!
    4tbsp bentonite clay (to remineralize)
    1tbsp baking soda
1tbsp silica (I use from horsetail for gum health)
1tbsp each sage, , cinnamon, clove
    1tbsp Himalaya pink salt

  43. I’ve worked Ina dental office for 13 years…..a cavity is pretty much a hole/ section or part of tooth that’s decayed…..no amount of healthy food can fix a cavity…the deeper the cavity the more likely a root canal! Good luck fixing that shit with a piece of asparagus! I call BS obviously eating the right goods and avoiding some can actually improve your oral health…nothing like a good DDS to fix a cavity

  44. It’s all the damn preservatives in all the foods today. You see cavemen didn’t have tooth paste or tooth brushes, they left food in their teeth from birth to death, and records show they kept most their teeth.

  45. Calcium with Vitiamin D reversed My Babies rotting Teeth!
it was too late for me. Lucky A Health Shop Assistant showed Me in the Supermarket!
Even my Dental nurse said too much floride was bad !
Calcium cannot be absorbed without vitamin D. & supermarkets are over $10 cheaper then the chemist.

  46. you cannot heal cavities u cannot rebuild enamel. enamel is not bone. the best u can do is stop progression of cavity. and if it’s in the pulp already it’s too late. the pulp is a sterile compartment once contaminated has to be removed.

  47. this article tells me to eat more meat and leave out grains, beans, nuts and seeds …this is stupid and cannot be true! besides that i won’t do it, i’m vegetarian. pls come up with better ideas.

only two things are sensitive: processed food (sugar and starch containing) are very uncool for the whole body … and i’ve read also that coconut oil should do wonders.

  48. But you would still need the necrotic tissue(decay) removed. If the cavity has penetrated through the enamel you will have a hole in your tooth. Though the coconut oil may help with this certain type of bacteria that is fed by a highly acidic environment it can not replace the lost tooth structure or re-mineralized the areas where the decay starts

  49. Since Samra thinks he is so smart & obviously likes to insult people, Tina was pointing out that the article says to stay away from grains, seeds, nuts, & legumes… I
Laugh everytime there is someone like you..

  50. Hey-o. Here are a couple more things to do: #1. If you haven’t already, or are able to, start going to a holistic dentist. I see one offers healthier procedures like laser and oxygen therapy, instead of prescribing unhealthy antibiotics. If you need more info about holistic dentistry, there’s plenty of info about this online. #2. If you haven’t already started using herbal dental products. Do. My holistic dentist provides effective herbal dental products like Vita-Myrs products; and tinctures that help detox novocaine. He sells another tincture that protect tooth enamel, like this one: this particular tincture is a popular and successful one at his very busy office. http://www.uncleharrys.com/store/mouth-care/remineralization-liquid-for-tooth-enamel-1-fl-oz. Here are more products he sells. All products from the “Dental Herb Company”, “OraMD” by holistic dentist Paul Rubin, and probiotic mints called “EvoraPro” by Oragenics. All of the products I’ve mentioned are available online. — P.S. Remember the pets’ mouth too. For instance, when I have my dog’s teeth cleaned at the vet, I give my dogs a round of this in their mouth before and after the cleaning. It’s called “Vibractra Plus”. It’s a natural anti-biotic. It works better than the pharmeceutical antibiotics that eventually cause my dogs to have yeast infections and indigestion; I also add this to their daily drinking water, it’s calledTropiclean’s “Fresh Breath”; and I brush their teeth. — P.S.S. There is more and more information being discovered that bacteria in the mouth, when inhaled, could possibly lead to heart ailments and Alzheimers. You can do your own research on how central the well-being of our mouth is to the well-being of our entire body. To help begin your research, if you haven’t already you can type in “Integrative Dentistry” to your search engine. Best of Health!

  51. And there goes the credibility of this page…
I love natural approach to medicine. I think we overuse drugs today and many things can be cured by diet.. BUT…
This is completely wrong. I am a dentist with thousands of cavity cases cured.
    This is simply not right.

  52. Relax ppl.Lack of minerals minerals minerals and yes fat is needed for your body to process those minerals . Your body will be acidic without minerals( this does cause cavities )They are not saying u MUST eat meat but the study this info came IS from researching communities with that did eats lots of healthy meats butter milk and little grains. Vegans have plenty of options to get fat and minerals lol u can still eat your grains it’s all about balance

  53. FALSE, Again you are posting lots of misinformation here which is a public disservice! I have years of clinical experience, in the dental field. Here’s the long and short of it: Tooth decay occurs when the pH in your mouth drops, causing an acidic environment. Bacterial plaque which is constantly forming on our teeth is soft in nature. Plaque combines with the acid and de-mineralization of the tooth occurs. If caught early enough, your saliva ( with the help of exposing the teeth to fluoride) can cause re-mineralization and strengthen the tooth. If the decay is not caught in it’s earliest stage, the tooth will further decay from the inside out. Your diet and oral hygiene habits are key in terms of preventing decay. For example, if you consume lots of soda, you are constantly bathing your teeth in acid. (Read your labels, even diet soda is acidic.) If you maintain a really clean mouth by proper brushing and flossing, and you maintain a healthy diet, your chance for getting decay is almost nill. Of course there exceptions to the rule. For example if you have a problem with a decrease in your saliva production, that can increase your risk…. Tooth decay is still the # 1 childhood disease. Kids are usually most prone to decay because their hygiene habits may be lacking and their diet may not be ideal… Adults who have gum recession with root exposure are also at risk. The root surfaces of the teeth are not as strong as enamel, making those areas prone to decay. Again fluoride rinses can be used as a preventative measure in these patients…. Your overall health is also important. Your teeth are anchored in your mouth by the health of your: gum tissue, the periodontal ligament, and the strength of your bone. The short answer is to eat a healthy diet, avoid processed junk foods and soda, and keep your mouth as clean as possible. There’s an old saying: brush and floss only the teeth you want to keep….

  54. Its sad to me that just because these dietary changes may not be for everyone, that somehow the article becomes “non sense” and people become rude and critical. The options stated here are simply an option if you are looking for one. Perhaps the adage,” if it doesn’t apply let it fly” should be considered?

  55. I’m all for natural and whatever but this isn’t based on any real science. Please don’t take it too seriously (I’m a dental hygienist with a degree in biology). Cavities are caused by bacteria ingesting sugar and producing an acidic byproduct that wears away your enamel. If you eat a lot of fermentable carbohydrates, you will be more prone to tooth decay. If you don’t, you won’t. It’s petty simple. It’s been researched and researched and researched. And I see how diet effects people every single day all day long.

  56. started to develop my first cavity during early pregnancy, started taking butter oil & fermented cod liver oil religiously and reversed the damage! Try Green Pasture Blue Ice Royal, also was extremely beneficial to the baby 🙂

  57. This is not for vegans. They have to eat grains, beans nuts and seeds otherwise they have a lack of …. As a matter of fact I had the biggest damage through childhood with a diet with meat, white flour, sugar and so on…. a wholistic diet with whole grain stoped it a lot….

  58. I live on beans, nuts and seeds (along with fruits and veggies). I’ll take my chances with tooth decay. Not going to eat meat in order to prevent tooth decay, not a valid trade off in my eyes.
